La Roux The Day
jmag sees red this March, with "vixen blade runner" La Roux getting foxy in a revealing cover story. "I've never really felt like I was any particular sex," the 'Bulletproof' star declares. "Not that I don't look at women or anything." Androgyny ahoy!
Also kicking up their (admittedly not quite as spangly) heels inside our March issue are some of 2010's hottest bands, both old and new. Indie kings Pavement hold court in preparation for their first tour in over a decade, while the Pixies' seminal Doolittle album gets a right going over by everyone from Gyroscope to TV on the Radio ("it's the sound of a crazy person!"). Brixton's major minor keysfolk Massive Attack let loose on new album Heligoland, and drop a few, erm, 'tricky' hints as to what they'll be up to next, while closer to home, Australia's favourite siblings - Angus & Julia Stone - give us the sweaty lowdown on creating their latest offering Down the Way. And don't miss jmag's chats with Spinnerette's Brody Dalle on her Melbourne homecoming, atmos-merchants Calexico, the Bon Scott-channelling Texans of Spoon and those cultured French chaps Phoenix ("In art, to disgust at the beginning is not a bad sign").
In other news, jmag goes back to school, with 'starving student' specials, including tips on namedropping the right albums at uni, getting clothes for free, dishing up late-night snacks and exploring hippest New York… without ever leaving the country.
We're also giving a lucky reader and their mate the chance to rock out, rural-style, at Townsville's Groovin the Moo festival. Plus, all new subscribers can go enter to win a snazzy summer pack including sunglasses and triple j's Paul Kelly tribute concert, Before Too Long, on DVD. Wowsa!
The March edition of jmag goes on sale Feb 24, from newsagents, ABC Shops and ABC Centres for only $7.50.
jmag — it's triple j between the sheets.
