Well apparently a song called Mountain Jam, by the Allman Brothers, is 33 minutes, 41 seconds, but it has no lyrics, just hairy dudes rock’n out.
Pink Floyd’s Shine On You Crazy Diamond lasts 26 minutes and 2 seconds and has lyrics as well as guitar, drums, synthesizer, saxophone, bells, factory noise and water.
A hard rock band in the 1960’s called Iron Butterfly did a song called In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida that goes for 17 minutes and 10 seconds long and it has lyrics and lots of organ. The title actually was supposed to be "In the Garden of Eden" but they sang the words so badly that they had to change the name of the song to fit what they were actually singing.
The current official winner is a song called The Devil Glitch which goes for 69-minutes and has over 500 verses and has been awarded as the "World's Longest Pop Song" by the Guinness Book of World Records.
But they might need to rethink because get this: apparently the longest musical performance began on 5 September 2001 by John Cage's and is set to last for 639 years. The first note that you could even hear of the song called, not surprisingly, As Slow As Possible was not actually heard until 5 February 2003.
But beating even that is a project called Longplayer which is trying to make a song that lasts for exactly 1000 years. Starting on 1st January, 2000, it has been streaming live to the internet ever since and is expected to finish just before we tick over to the year 3000!
It seems like every one want to try and break the record. Even ABC Triple J are trying to break the record by getting people to add their own versus and music to The World's Longest Pop Song.
