David Robertson conducts the SSO in Stravinsky’s Firebird with Yefim Bronfman soloist in Tchiakovsky’s Piano Concerto No.1. This concert won Best Orchestral Performance in the 2008 Limelight Awards.

Friday 9 January

Afternoons: CLASSIC CHOICE 2008 - 1.05pm

The Takács String Quartet play Haydn’s Rider String Quartet, James MacMillan’s String Quartet No.3 and Beethoven’s 3rd Razumovsky Quartet.

Saturday 10 January

In Performance - Australian Youth Orchestra National Music Camp 2009 - 8pm LIVE

Tonight the National Music Camp 2009's Richard Mills Chamber orchestra, under the direction of Irish violinist Fionnuala Hunt, begins the concert with Bartók’s Divertimento for Strings. The NMC’s Bishop Orchestra, led by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra Chief Conductor James Judd, plays James Ledger’s Fall from grace. The concert concludes with the Alexander Orchestra, led by French conductor Francois-Xavier Roth, with Nielsen’s Symphony No.4, Inextinguishable.

Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast Season: The Magic Flute - 7.05pm

The Magic Flute, Singspiel in two acts, K620 (abbreviated version, sung in English) by W.A. Mozart.

Afternoons: CLASSIC CHOICE 2008 - 1.05pm

Australian guitarist John Williams performs Takemitsu’s 'To the edge of a dream' and Peter Sculthorpe’s 'Nourlangie' with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra led by Oleg Caetani. Messiaen’s 'Hymn' and Mahler’s Symphony No.1 top and tail the program.

Tuesday 13 January

Afternoons: CLASSIC CHOICE 2008 - 1.05pm

Young Australian saxophone virtuoso Amy Dickson was so taken with Philip Glass’ Violin Concerto she transcribed it for saxophone. Hear her play it today with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra led by Otto Tausk.

Wednesday 14 January

Afternoons: CLASSIC CHOICE 2008 - 1.05pm

The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, The Bach Choir and four outstanding soloists, all directed by Oleg Caetani, present Verdi’s Requiem.

Thursday 15 January

Afternoons: CLASSIC CHOICE 2008 - 1.05pm

This program with a Russian theme from the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra begins with Glinka’s Ruslan and Ludmila Overture. James Ehnes is soloist in Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto. Kalinnikov’s Symphony No.1 concludes the program.

Friday 16 January

Afternoons: CLASSIC CHOICE 2008 - 1.05pm

Afternoons 'Classic Choice 2008' concert roundup concludes with a tango. Bandoneon virtuoso Carel Kraayenhof joins the Sydney Symphony in a program of Ginastera, Piazzolla and Revueltas.
